This year, I hosted Valentine’s mini sessions in LA designed to capture love in a way that feels natural, romantic, and timeless. Valentine’s Day is often seen as a day for grand gestures: flowers, chocolates, candlelit dinners. But to me, it’s something much quieter and more meaningful than that. It’s a reminder to celebrate love while we’re living inside it.
Outside of life-changing milestones like weddings or proposals, most people rarely get the chance to truly document their love for one another. And yet, those everyday moments; the laughter, the softness, the comfort of simply being together are often the most meaningful of all. That’s why I wanted to create something special this year: Valentine’s Day mini sessions that felt romantic, playful, and deeply personal. A space where couples could simply exist together and have that feeling preserved forever.
A Vintage Take on Valentine’s Mini Sessions in LA
The aesthetic of these sessions is rooted in everything I love most: quirky charm, soft romance, vintage inspiration, and natural connection.
My eye is always drawn to hints of the past, especially the art deco era and the dreamy feeling of old film love stories. There’s something timeless about vintage romance. It feels gentle, cinematic, and emotional in a way that never goes out of style.
More than anything, I wanted couples to feel excited… but comfortable. Many people feel shy in front of a camera, so instead of focusing on posed perfection, I guide couples through playful prompts, little moments that help them interact naturally, laugh together, and forget the camera is even there.
Because when people relax and simply enjoy each other, that’s when magic happens.

Why LA Loft Studios Was the Perfect Setting
These Valentine’s mini sessions in LA took place at the beautifully styled LA Loft Studios, whose Valentine’s themed sets immediately captured my attention. The studio offered beautiful natural light along with layered textures that felt romantic and intimate. Favorite elements of the space included: soft fabric textures that almost felt fashion-inspired, giant teddy bears that brought out playful energy, cozy chairs and a table for quiet connection and a dramatic red curtain paired with a chandelier.
I’m always drawn to spaces that offer visual depth, especially with my background in fashion and textiles. With the combination of light, texture, and color created the perfect environment for vintage romance to come alive.

Sweet Details That Brought the Story to Life
One of my favorite features of the entire session is the vintage-inspired mini cake. It is incredibly adorable and perfectly on theme. Props like food or drinks really help couples interact in a more natural, playful way. Sharing a bite of cake, laughing while feeding each other, or popping champagne together creates real moments.
I discovered Killer Bakery LA while searching for a cake with a true vintage aesthetic, and I loved the idea of collaborating with a local Los Angeles baker. Liz is known for her gorgeous vintage, sometimes spooky, and always delicious cakes. Along with the cake, I brought roses, serving pieces, and champagne for some of the couples. But honestly, the studio already provided such a beautifully styled environment that it didn’t need much more.
The cake scene, though… I’m still obsessed.
It created the sweetest candid moments of laughter, playful messiness, and genuine connection that you simply can’t script.

Three Couples, Three Unique Love Stories
Each of the three couples who participated brought completely different energy into the space. One couple was young and newly in love, full of excitement. Another had been married for years, moving together with familiarity and ease. And the final couple are newly engaged and their connection is deep yet playfully fun.
Watching their dynamics unfold is incredibly special. Love doesn’t look the same for everyone, and that’s exactly what makes documenting it so meaningful. Some of my favorite moments were completely unexpected but perfect in my eyes. Some moments include Lexi and Jose laughing uncontrollably while feeding each other cake, Kacie and Daryl trying to open the champagne bottle and Mayra and Jason trying to throw the giant teddy bear to each other. Most were spontaneous, tender, and completely real.
Those are the moments I live to capture.
Why Documenting Love Matters So Much to Me
Capturing love stories is always meaningful, but for me, it’s deeply personal. You never know what tomorrow holds. Time moves quickly, and moments that feel ordinary today can become priceless memories later.
Because of my mom’s Huntington’s Disease, this truth lives very close to my heart. I often wish we had even more photos and videos together from earlier years. Just small moments. Simple memories. Evidence of time shared. Even a single photograph can become something you hold onto forever.
That’s why I believe documenting love isn’t just about romance, it’s about connection in every form. Partners. Family. Friends. Pets. Even self-love. And when couples see their images, I want them to feel seen; to look at the photos and feel the love between them, not the insecurities we all tend to focus on.
Because when two people truly love each other, that’s all anyone sees.

What I Took Away From These Sessions
This experience reminded me to embrace the unexpected.
Some of the most meaningful images happen when people simply interact; when they laugh, play, and forget they’re being photographed. Creating opportunities for natural engagement always leads to the most authentic moments. It also pushed me creatively. Typically, I shoot outdoors, so working within a styled indoor environment allowed me to explore storytelling in a new way. Valentine’s Day is beautiful but love deserves to be celebrated far more often than once a year.
Capture it when it’s new.
Capture it when it’s steady.
Capture it when it feels ordinary.
Because one day, those ordinary moments may mean everything.
